25th anniversary of TL Electronic in 2008

2008 was the year we celebrated the 25th anniversary of TL Electronic. The IT hardware specialist was founded near Munich’s east train station in 1983 and moved to Garching in 1994.

Over the years our initial range of industrial monitors was extended to include the company’s own range of industrial PCs and panel PCs.

Our focus has since changed. The past few years have seen us move from being monitor and display specialists, to becoming one of the most important suppliers of visualisation devices, and on to become one of the most important manufacturers of industrial PCs. Display units continue to be an important element of our product range, but the current focus is on in-house manufacturing of industrial PCs and panel PCs.

After a management buy-out in 2001 Stefan Götz and Michael Mohr are now sole shareholders of the company. With 40 employees in the Garching area of Munich, a branch office in Essen and establishments in Frohnleiten, Austria, and Turin, Italy, last year we achieved a turnover of €5.8 million. We produced between 450 and 500 PCs per month. We moved from Garching to facilitate our expansion.

New location

Manufacturing capacity was not the only reason for relocating in September 2008. We wanted our premises to reflect the changes occurring within the company itself. An important focus here is, of course, our production requirements, but the new site in Feldgeding, near Munich, should allow the company to expand its sales and marketing activities.

Expansion

We are confident that our foreign business will continue to grow. Our medium-term goal is to achieve a turnover of between €7 million and €9 million and our defined goal is to set up company production sites in our neighbouring European countries. Having recognised our European potential based on our success in Austria and Italy, we have now set our sights on England and France.

Because we produce individual, customised products, it makes no sense to relocate to countries where wage costs are lower. And we have come to value the qualifications of the people we employ in our production sites. As products become more complex and clients require intensive consultation and better levels of onsite service, we require increasingly specialised staff. Which is why we train our own hardware and systems electronic specialists.

TL Electronic sees its strengths not only in the production of customised systems, but also in its tailor-made service which meets all customer needs. Production is organised to ensure that small production runs or individual items can be manufactured quickly and economically.

Managing directors Stefan Götz and Michael Mohr describe their company philosophy as follows: “As a reliable partner with actually 26 years’ experience our aim is to continually inspire our customers with our high-quality, customised industrial IT hardware, and with our clever solutions, starting from the initial consultation and extending right up to service provision.”
